Meet the founders
Loredana Avagliano

Loredana Avagliano is a ceramic artist and cultural practitioner, founder and director of SaharaClay Project.
She holds a degree in Political Science, with a specialization in international law and a focus on Western Sahara, which has shaped her long-standing interest in issues of cultural identity, self-determination, and communities living in exile.
Her engagement with the Saharawi people developed over time, both through her academic background and through direct encounters that deepened her understanding of their history and current conditions.
SaharaClay emerged from a field experience in the Saharawi refugee camps of Tindouf, in the Algerian Sahara. This experience marked a decisive moment, transforming a long-standing interest into a concrete commitment.
Witnessing firsthand the work of the women ceramicists, as well as the conditions in which they operate, led her to initiate a project aimed at supporting and strengthening an existing reality with strong cultural and social value.
Her approach is based on listening, collaboration, and respect for local knowledge. Rather than introducing external models, her role is to accompany and reinforce a process that is already rooted in the community, fostering connections between the workshop and the international cultural context.
Nuria Pozas is a Spanish artist based in Avilés, Asturias. Her work focuses on ceramics and contemporary artistic practices, developing projects that move between local and international contexts. As a member of AIC-IAC (International Academy of Ceramics), she has participated in exhibitions, residencies and collaborative projects, building a practice that connects craftsmanship, research and experimentation.
She is also an active member of the Agrupación de Ceramistas Asturianos and is included in the Asturian Artists Archive at La Laboral, reflecting her engagement with the ceramic community and her contribution to the regional artistic landscape.
Alongside her individual practice, she directs Lado Norte, a cultural association based in Asturias dedicated to promoting artistic diversity and creating spaces where artists from different backgrounds can meet, share processes and develop new ideas. Lado Norte works as an open platform for collaboration, supporting both emerging and established artists.
Through its initiatives, the association develops artistic and educational projects in collaboration with marginalized communities and international groups, aiming to make art more accessible and to encourage exchange between people and cultural contexts.
